Iris Woo is a pianist, composer, and music educator.  Iris started taking piano lesson from the age of seven and participated in choir and string orchestra program in her high school.  Passionate about music, she decided to pursue a music career.  She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia where she majored in composition.  She plays the piano, violin, yangqin, and guzheng.  After graduation, she was working as the Tom Lee Music More Music Department Manager where she purchased music books and accessories, organized and presented workshops and masterclasses for music teachers and professional musicians, until she went to architecture school.

Since 1990, Iris has been teaching piano, theory, and history of all levels in her studio.  Many of her students have achieved First Class Honours with Distinction in the Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations.  And some of them have pursued their careers in music.

Besides teaching, Iris is active composing music and performing.  She had appeared on TV and performed singing and piano in weddings, senior house, Vancouver General Hospital, and in charity concerts.

Iris strongly believes that music can enrich a person’s life.  Besides teaching music to children, Iris also volunteers in the music community.  She was appointed to serve the Vancouver Civic Theatres Board for 4 years and had volunteered for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and sang Christmas carols at the Vancouver General Hospital in the past.  Currently, she sits on the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival Society Board and the Vancouver Bach Choir Board.  Furthermore, she plays piano for the Special Care Unit at the Rosewood Manor regularly.
